Marking consideration European Union: According to "DIRECTIVE 2006/66/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 6 September 2006 on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators and repeating Directive 91/157/EEC" the batteries have to be marked with the crossed bin. European Union: VARTA Primary Lithium Metal Batteries are conform to the requirements of the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and are thus marked with the CE symbol from August 18, 2024. Due to the size of the battery it is not possible to print the CE marking (minimum size of 5 mm) on the battery itself, therefore it is affixed to the packaging and to the documents accompanying the battery. For the state of California these batteries have to be marked as "containing perchlorate".
